On a possibly related point, if you want to burn a gapless CD (i.e. no gap between the tracks), the best way to do this is by burning the CD in “Disc-at-Once” mode rather then “Track-at-Once”. If your software doesn’t have a disc-at-once option, try Burn4Free.
