Unfortunately only one Murdoch team made the break. Also, I didn’t get the names of the paper presentation finalists (or the uni they are from). Anyway, best of luck to Murdoch’s client interviewers, and all the other competitors of course.
In Kirby Cup news, we compete tomorrow. I’m looking forward to it.
The 2007 ALSA Conference started last night here in Canberra with a great event in the great hall of parliament house. As you can see from the photo, MSLS mascot Wilson the Penguin made a guest appearance soaring majestically above the crowd.
This is just a quick post to say good luck to all the competitors (especially to Murdoch). Rounds 1 and 2 are today and round 3 is tomorrow for mooting, client interview, negotiation and witness examination. The preliminary round for paper presentation is on Wednesday. Quarter-finalists and finalists for these competitions will announced at the cocktail party on Wednesday night. I will try to have quarter finalists posted here by Thursday.
I recently joined the Australian Blogs community @ BUMPzee. It’s a community for Australian blogs, so if you’ve got a blog from the land down-under, why don’t you join. Its done wonders for my traffic and my place on technorati.
So, if you are looking for something to read, try any of these:
Last nights 2007 IMLAM Grand Final between Victoria University and Universitas Indonesia was won by Universitas Indonesia. Congratulations to the Indonesian team. Murdoch didn’t go away empty handed taking out the award for the best written memorandum on behalf of the claimant.
Here is the full list of winners:

An individual Courage and Commitment award, also sponsored by Sarah and Roger Derrington – Lisa Muller, University of Newcastle.
More big news… in 2008 the International Maritime Law Arbitration Moot will be returning to Murdoch University.
Todays semi-finals have just been completed. They were won by Victoria University and Universitas Indonesia. Neither side agreed on who was to be claimant and respondent leading to a coin toss (as VU finished higher they had the call). VU lost the toss and Indonesia have elected to represent the respondents. So tonight’s grand final will be Victoria University v Universitas Indonesia
Unfortunatley, the 2007 International Maritime Law Arbitration Moot has come to an end for Murdoch University, knocked out in the semi finals. It was a fantastic effort on the part of the Murdoch team. They have faced and defeated some tough opponents just to get this far. Congratulations to the Murdoch team and best of luck to the two grand finalists.
Pete here reporting in from Victoria University in Melbourne. Its day 3 of the 2007 International Maritime Law Arbitration Moot and the general rounds are over. We are less then an hour away from the quarter finals and they will be as follows:
Victoria University v International Islamic University of Malaysia
University of Hong Kong v University of Technology, Sydney
On a possibly related point, if you want to burn a gapless CD (i.e. no gap between the tracks), the best way to do this is by burning the CD in “Disc-at-Once” mode rather then “Track-at-Once”. If your software doesn’t have a disc-at-once option, try Burn4Free.
Once again, if you enjoy this, you should come see the WASO/WASO Chorus live. Details of our next performance (Symphony of Psalms) are in a previous message. Tickets start from $20 for Students/Under 26 year olds for the main concert on Friday and Saturday the 15th/16th of June or just $15 general admission for the special concert on Tuesday the 19th of June.
I wasn’t planning to say anything more about this, but seeing as my comments about the Guild Election Regulations have been misconstrued or misinterpreted, I thought a clarification was in order. I thought I’d respond directly for the reasons given for not complying :
The election date has not yet been called.
So what, the regulations aren’t restricted to the time after the election date is known.
The regulations quoted by Peter in an earlier email related to
Hard copy materials
Materials placed in designated areas on polling day
These regulations are not restricted to hard copy materials or materials placed in designated areas on polling days.
I thought I’d also clarify my motives (by quoting the response I gave to Basha):
Hehe, no, excuse me, I’m just being ridiculously pedantic and in some ways just expressing my irritation from past campaigns and my hope that this one will be done by the book.
Best of luck to you and all candidates.
These comments were more aimed at past electoral misconduct, rather then future. Anyway, I’ve drawn their attention to the regulations and they have both affirmed their intention to play by the rules. Mission accomplished.
The electronic ink was barely dry on my last post on this topic when the YouTube campaign video of Mr Smith was removed by the owner only to be replaced by the following:
What’s changed I hear you ask. Well apart from the video quality, the following has been inserted under the bit about a Guild Pharmacy in font that is minute and somewhat illegible: “More details to be released later this year” (note that parts of it are so illegible that I can’t be sure of the exact wording). He has also set up a campaign blog on WordPress.
Despite this, it still doesn’t comply with Guild Election Regulation 4.3 (come on, its not hard). Neither does Basha’s blog for that matter. Come on guys, play by the rules… be fair to all the other candidates.
