Pick my Glasses

Update: to the people who are coming across this thanks to the magic of google and are insipred to hold your own contest… drop us a link and I’ll be happy to give you my honest vote. And after careful consideration of the votes and comments I decided to go with Number 6.

The Problem

Thanks to HBF, I’m due for a discounted pair of glasses (and I have until 31 December 2006 to use it or loose it). I really want to get a different kind of frame, I’ve been wearing the same style for atleast the last 4 years. However, one of the ironies of needing glasses is that the display pairs do nothing. Consequently, I don’t really see what I look like when trying on a display pair. Here is an artist’s impression:

My world without glasses

The solution is to take a camera and get a helpful staff member take some photos for you. But I thought, now that I have the photos I may as well put them online. So, in an effort to promote democracy in the middle east, I’m putting this to a vote… yep, its a (non-binding) referendum.

For reference here is the Before photo:

The Options

I’ve got 6 potential After Photos. I’d like to know, which ones you think are the top three and which one should I definately avoid. Without further ado, here they are:

Option 1Option 2Option 3Option 4Option 5Option 6

To vote, just hit reply below, and remember, I’m looking for your top 3 and one to avoid (if there is one).

Thanks, Peter Clay.

  • In my opinion:
    1) #2
    2) #6
    3) #3
    Avoid: #4

  • (PC posting on behalf of my dad)
    1) 2
    2) 6
    3) 3
    Avoid: 4

  • 1) 3
    2) 6
    3) 2
    Avoid: 4

  • 1) 6
    2) 4
    3) 2
Avoid: Number 4 if you aren’t going to update your frame on a regular basis.

  • I like in order

    No 2
    No 3
    No 6

    Avoid No 4.

This seems quite universal but my main preference is No 2. No 5 looks cool for sunglasses

  • 1) 2
    2) 6
    3) 5

Definitely not 4 (unless you want to go for a “mild mannered Clark Kent” look)

  • 1) 2

    2) 6

    3) 3

Avoid 4. (I hope these frames are not the ones on offer.)

  • Hi Peter in order of preference
    2
    3
    6
    5
    avoid 4

  • Hey Peter, this is a very good idea. My order of preference:
    4)
    6)
    2)

  • Hey Peter,
    I reckon
    6)
    3)
    5) Note : sunglasses only
Also, I agree with the others on this - avoid 4!

  • Hi Peter… what a great idea!

    My top three are:
    - 2
    - 6
    - and, although they are getting a hammering, I like number 4! I think they are very suave!

  • I like No 2 as they are the only ones that give the eye brows full artistic range.

Can’t really see the problem with 4. I think the Superman image is not necesarily one to be avoided.

See you soon - that is if you get glasses !!

  • Oh Gosh!

    1) No 2 Definitely!

    2) 3

    3) 6

Avoid any oval shaped glasses. Does not suit the face shape for some reason.

  • And stop dissing No4. I like it. Well maybe it’s not the right shape, but I am biased towards thick plastic frames anyway.

  • Actually, No 4 is a metallic frame. It may interest you to know that No 4 was recommended to me by the fashionista friendly shop assistant. Hoorah for 2nd opinions (though I do think maybe you’ve been abit harsh on No 4).

  • #2
    #3
    #6

    and #4 is crap.

  • #3

    #1

    #6

    Definitely, avoid #4.

My advice is “Ask a woman.”

  • Hi Pete,

What a fab idea!!! I luv it..

Anyhow, Im with Carolina - although everyone has paid out on number 4 I really like them and think they are very cool and suaveo.. so thats where my vote is going! They are a little different too which is always a bonus..props to the fashionista shop assistant I say!

However if 4 is outvoted, ill put my weight behind number 2.. But im strongly cheering for number 4!!

  • I like # 6 the most , then # 2 and then # 3. Avoid # 4!! Either 6 or 3 would look really good on you.
    xoxo

  • 2, then 6, then 3.

The ones with less edge tend to suit you better. I’d avoid 5 if they’re transition lenses (I find they tend to stay tinted too long and don’t really suit a professional environment), but don’t reckon number 4 are that bad.

Consider contacts as well, to the point where a picture with no glasses should be an option.

  • Equal 6 and 4. Very classy and savvy lawyerish. Then 1.
Avoid 2 and 3 because make you look old and stuffy.
5 too much like your current glasses which I really like.

  • Hard choice.. you look good in a few of them

    My picks

#2 - good for any ocassion (and fashionable), &

    # 4 I really like this set, quite funky and stylish

Avoid - Number 1, 3 & 5: I dont think they suit your face, and plus they’re a bit too “normal”.

  • Hey hun

That is very clever of u making us vote on the best glasses. Yes i agree with everyone else, avoid 4 and im not keen one 1 either. So i am voting for 2 then 3 then6. good luck xoxo

  • 1) #4
    2)#2
    3)#6

    Avoid
#5- you are not elton john

  • 1. #6
    2. #2
    3. #3

    Avoid: #4

  • #3
    #6
    #2

Great idea !!! This has got to go further into the blogosphere….. :)

  • 4
    2
    6
    (in that order)
avoid 5 — too narrow for your face

  • Hey Peter,

    Great idea!!!

    a. 2

    b. 6

  • #2 but make sure they are not too flimsy
    #6

  • 1st choice No. 4
    2nd choice No. 2
    3rd choice No. 1

    Avoid round ones! like 6.

  • I prefer the current ones but No.6 is my choice for new ones.

  • What is wrong with the majority of these people? Number 4 is stylish as! Go with the shop assistant! NUMBER 4!!!!

  • Personally No. 4 is my favorite. No. 2 would be my next choice. I don’t really have a third top choice. But I’d avoid No. 5 (too much like your old frames) and No. 1.

    Good luck!

  • 4 is the best–really dapper! 2 is second choice.
Of course, it being the 30th today, whoops, make that 31st, which did you order?

  • Thanks Zina… and thank you all.

I ended up ordering No 6 (partially due to some particularly persuasive stuff people have said both here and offline, partially due to the fact that No 2 felt uncomfortable and flimsy).

  • I’m glad you went with 6. I work as an optician and that was my first pick, 4 being the other. A rectangular shape frame compliments your face shape much more than the more rounded ones.

2 would have been good aswell, but I agree with you with rimless frames being flimsy. The screws on them often come loose and can be a pain.

  • NUMBER 4 !!!!!!!

i dont know why everyone is saying to avoid that pair!!! They thin out your face and compliment it VERY well!!! and that style is very trendy for guys! I love that pair a lot!!! you look very sleek and sophisticated….but if you absolutly hate those i….nope….dont want to give another option…LOL… i like those way too much!!!

    avoid: the rest!!!!

  • #4 or #6
